Dear DECATS Families,
We hope that this correspondence finds you and yours safe and healthy. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been relentless and continues to demand that we consider public health above our academic and social interests. Consequently, this summer marks the first in the program’s history that we will not be providing enrichment activities for the identified talented and gifted students of our metroplex. While we are sad that we won’t be physically present for classes and activities, we want you to know that we are thinking of you and your family and intend to return in 2021 with great programs.
In the meantime, we’ve created a way to stay connected. This summer, DECATS teachers will be using the Padlet Program to introduce themselves, post fun videos and share activities you and your family can participate in at home. Think of the DECATS Padlet as a compilation of resources to use independently. You’re encouraged to engage with the Padlet in whatever way makes sense for your family. Resources on the Padlet will be labeled as either an activity or message from Junior DECATS (3rd-5th grades) or Senior DECATS (6th-8th grades). We have certainly practiced due diligence in selecting websites but you are the ultimate internet guardian for your scholar so we encourage your review. We hope that by sharing these resources, you’ll find some challenging, fun, and engaging messages and activities until we’re all back together for DECATS 2021.
Please stay safe and know that your DECATS staff members are missing you and look forward to the day that we can meet in person and enjoy some of the creative, innovative and exciting opportunities that DECATS offers.

Pat Shotland, Director Senior DECATS
