Times and location:
- · The program begins Monday, June 3
- · Optional Orientation Meeting (especially good for new families) is on Saturday, June 1
from 4PM – 5PM in the Bishop Lynch Theater.
- · Location is at Bishop Lynch High School - 9750 Ferguson Road, Dallas, 75228
- · Location of specific classes will be provided in student folders
- · Program 9 am-4 pm Monday-Thursday – Staff on campus Monday – Thursday 8 am-5 pm
- · Friday, June 7th and 14th, the program runs from 9 am-12:00; No program on
Friday, June 21st
- · Wednesday, June 19th BL building is closed – Juneteenth Holiday
Schedules:
- · Provided on the first day of the program. They are in student folders.
- · If there are special circumstances and a student is unable to come to the first day, you may request your schedule be emailed to you
Bus service:
- · Bus service is provided from St. Rita, St. Mark and Prince of Peace
- · The fee for bus service is $150
- · Students must be registered for bus service
- · Bus stop times are:
- Prince of Peace: 8AM returning approximately at 5PM
- St. Mark: 8:15 AM returning approximately at 4:45PM
- St. Rita: 8:15 AM returning approximately at 4:45PM
Breaks/Lunch:
- · Snacks and drinks are sold at the morning break and at lunch
- · Pizza is sold by the slice at lunch. First period teachers take a lunch count each morning.
- · Bring sack lunch if not eating pizza
- · Students are responsible for keeping their belongings with them; there are no lockers or “homerooms”
- Snack and pizza sales proceeds are donated to a designated charity
- Students may purchase $20 Debit Cards instead of using cash that can be used purchase items throughout the day. Students can also use cash to purchase items.
Schedule:
- · Each morning and afternoon we have “Community Meetings” with announcements, highlights, awards, skits that are held in the auditorium\theater. Students sit in “Pods” in their MAJORS – "Pods" are determined the first week within the MAJORS
- · Each student chose a schedule and a copy will be provided in the student folder. If you need a copy of your schedule, it will be in the DECATS office.
- · Every week MINORS change – these classes last only 3 days
- · Every day the MAJORS are the same
- · The Daily schedule is included in folder
- · If there is an issue with your schedule that can be changed, GA’s will assist in this process – please limit changes to important changes; some classes are closed because of safety and/or supplies
Dress Code:
- · Every day wear a name tag on a lanyard (lanyards and labels provided in folders) – very important so that we get to know you
- · Wear what is comfortable (casual – jeans, sweats, shorts, etc.); no rude or offensive messages; if a special event or field trip, teachers will give directions about appropriate clothing
Electronics/Phone Use:
- · Students are welcome to bring personal electronic devices including phones – we ask that all phones are put away during classes and community meetings. We ask that students act responsibly with phones and reserve the right to take phones from students abusing the privilege (we will return the phone at the end of the day).
Supplies:
- · All supplies are provided by DECATS
- · Teachers may suggest that on field trips, students bring money for snacks or lunch, but it is always fine to bring food from home
Special Days:
- · Dress up days are announced and reflect student interest or theme of the day. Dress up days are optional!
- · Performances and demonstration days are on calendar of events (published the first week of the program) and also announced on website, via letter to parents of that major (email) and announced daily
- · Open House with displays from various MAJORS will be at the end of the final week of DECATS – if special events are taking place within a particular major, parents will be notified
- · Forms all available on our website at www.srdecats.org; but if a student was registered using the ACTIVE system, forms have been signed
Medicine:
- · Students that need to take medication and prefer to keep medication with them, will need to provide DECATS with a note from a doctor or parent. Please give that note to our nurse (Nancy Wrozek - nwrozek@cks.org). If there are special circumstances that we need to be aware of, please let the nurse know.
Who we are and what we do:
- · All of our teachers are veteran teachers – some have been with us for over 25 years
- · Many classes are “team taught” with more than one teacher
- · GA’s are high school students who are Senior DECATS alum, they have had special leadership training and act as mentors to students and teacher assistants
- · PODS are small groups of students assigned for the MAJORS – each “POD” has a specific “GA” – each child should know who their “GA” is.
- · All classes are “student directed” and rely on energy, enthusiasm and self-motivated students
- · Classes are designed to challenge students to use their talents to promote social justice and personal responsibility
